Claudia Lane And Dylan Jacobs: The 2017 Foot Locker XC National Champions
The 39th annual Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships took place on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Balboa Park’s Morley Field in San Diego, Calif. Forty female and 40 male high school athletes (10 from each region–Northeast, West, Midwest and South) traveled to San Diego to race along the spectator-lined 5-kilometer route as morning temperatures climbed into the mid-60s. Though wildfires raged in Southern California communities north of San Diego, the skies stayed clear of smoke for the runners, giving them pleasantly warm running conditions instead.
High school junior Claudia Lane of Malibu, Calif. won the girls’ race for the second year in a row with a final time of 17:03.4. Other female athletes that finished within the top five included: Katelynne Hart (17:22.5), Olivia Theis (17:22.6), Katherine Lee (17:38.3) and Jacqueline Gaughan (17:44.6).
High school senior Dylan Jacobs of Orland Park, Ill. won the boys’ race with a final time of 15:19.7. Other male athletes that finished within the top five included: Graydon Morris (15:23.3), Daniel Kilrea (15:27.3), John Tatter (15:27.9) and Jake Renfree (15:38.7).
