After the Boston Marathon bombing, spectator Roseann Sdoia was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital and firefighter Mike Materia was with her along the way, comforting her through the whole ride.

Now, the New York Post reports that the couple will be married later this year.

Sdoia was in intensive care for days after the bombing and had her right leg amputated after the blast. She told the New York Post that her mother kept trying to set her up with Materia, who visited her in the hospital.

“She was like, ‘Oh, did you see that firefighter? He’s so cute.’ And I was like, ‘Mom, I just got blown up.’ ”

As she recovered—with Materia by her side—the two went on their first date in June 2013 and the proposal took place last month.

“He’s seen me on my worst day,” she added.

The New York Post reports that next month the couple plans to release a book called Perfect Strangers about four lives that intersected during the bombing.
