The "10K a day" rule first emerged as a goal distance for walking groups in Japan during the 1960s.
With the Oscars just around the corner, it seemed an opportune time to survey some of the movie tunes that double as workout jams. In fairness, the Oscar nominees themselves generally favor understated scores–rather than epic anthems. However, the exceptions to this rule include the title track from last year’s Straight Outta Compton, a Pharrell song from a film he co-produced (Hidden Figures), and one of the tunes that helped La La Land tie Titanic and All About Eve‘s record of 14 nominations.
Beyond the Oscars, you’ll find collaborations pairing Wiz Khalifa with Charlie Puth, Skrillex with Rock Ross, and Stevie Wonder with Ariana Grande. Finally, with a nod to the future, you’ll find one of last summer’s biggest hits (Fat Joe and Remy Ma’s “All the Way Up” remixed for Vin Diesel’s XXX: Return of Xander Cage.
