Eat Pray Run DC: 3 Ways to Get Out of A Running Rut

It happens to all of us. You’re going along with your training, running a few times a week and loving it and then…all of a sudden, you are just over it. You no longer want to run and you’re just not sure why. You’re in a running rut. How can you get over the hump and find your lost love for running? I have three tips for you:

  • Take a break. Give yourself permission to take a few days off of running to recharge. You know that saying, “absence makes the heart grow fonder?” It’s applicable to running as well. After your break, you will feel recharged and ready to run again.
  • Switch it up. Try a new route. Run at a different time of day. Just make a change. Sometimes after weeks of running the same loop, heading out to a beautiful trail can rejuvenate your love for running.
  • Find a buddy. Running with a friend can take what was once mundane and make it fun again. Personally, my buddy and I love using our running time to catch up on life (and The Bachelor)!

Give any combination of these a try to help ignite your love for running again!
