Colleen Quigley discusses her first Millrose Games, during which she won the NYRR Wanamaker Mile.
What would you do for love? Would you climb a mountain, or perhaps swim the great big sea? How about run a marathon. . .or 52? You read that right – would you run 52 marathons in 52 weeks in the name of love? That’s 1362.4 race miles. And Julie Weiss ran every mile of that total – all for the love of her father.
Maurice Weiss was his daughter’s number one fan. After being diagnosed in 2010 with pancreatic cancer, he succumbed to the disease just one month after his diagnosis. Determined to define the strength of human spirit and make a difference in the lives of those fighting this rapid cancer, Julie set out on a mission to run a marathon every week for an entire year. Dedicating each race to someone personally affected by the illness on her blog, the Marathon Goddess (as nicknamed by her followers) chronicled her journey through the toughest mental and physical challenge of her life. And if that’s not enough- she did it all while working a regular full-time job.
To date, Julie has raised over $175,000 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and she has no plans to slow down now. With an ultimate goal of $1,000,000, Julie plans to repeat her 52 in 52 record before 2020 – all for the love of her father.
