Is it July yet? Oh wait, June just started. . .darn! Though we don’t want to wish time away, we can’t help but anxiously await the beginning of the 2012 Summer Olympics. The Games officially kick off on July 27th, with the “Athletics” events (fancy-schmancy Olympic term for all running sports) commencing on Friday, August 3rd.
As elite athletes from all over the world make final preparations for the Olympics, many are running final races to dial in perfect race day strategy. At the Rock-n-Roll San Diego Half Marathon this past weekend, the Men’s and Women’s overall winners are two of the Olympic athletes tuning up as the ultimate competition draws near. Meb Keflezighi (US) won the men’s half marathon with a time of 1:03:11.

Kim Smith (NZ) won the women’s half marathon with a time of 1:08:37. Smith also holds the record for the fastest women’s half marathon run on US soil with a time of 1:07:11, which she ran at the 2011 Rock-n-Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon.
Olympic marathoner Ryan Hall (US) competed against Keflezighi in the half marathon race, finishing in second place with a time of 1:05:39. Keflezighi, Hall and Smith will represent their countries in the marathon distance race of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
In less than 60 days we will be glued to our television screens for a glimpse of the world’s greatest runners chasing down their Olympic dreams. There’s something magically motivating about the pure drive and aspiration of each athlete and we can’t wait to witness this year’s showdowns. Until then, we’ll keep lacing up our shoes and chasing down our own running dreams!
