How to Make Time to Run

We totally get it. Life gets in the way sometimes and makes it difficult to squeeze in time to run. Whether it’s work, family commitments, or just everyday life, sometimes we feel like we’re being pulled in a million directions. Unfortunately, for women like us, our precious running time can be the first thing sacrificed in our attempt to be Super Woman.

Super Woman needed a running start to perform her magic...

We’re not going to spend time preaching to you about the benefits of taking time for yourself. Truth is, you already know how important it is to carve our time for yourself.  That’s not the problem. The issue is finding the time. That is why we, here at Women’s Running, want to offer you some important tips to make time to run today:

  • Make running a priority. You schedule hundreds of commitment a month (meetings, play groups, doctor appointments, etc…). So why not schedule time to run? Take the guess work out of the planning and block time off on your daily calendar to indulge in some exercise.

  • Keep your running gear near. We love running for its simplicity. You don’t need a lot of equipment to make it happen. Eliminate the excuse that you can’t run because you don’t have the clothes by keeping your work out gear with you. Each day before you leave the house, throw your running clothes and shoes in a bag to stash in your car. No matter where you go, you’ll always have what you need to head out for a run.

  • Be time crunch ready. Sometimes you only have 20 minutes to dedicate to a workout for the day. Be prepared to make the most of the time be designing a 20 minute run plan. Getting in some quick sprints, or a short, fast run is better than no run.

  • Avoid time vampires. While we love social media, if we’re truly honest, we must admit that sometimes we get sucked into wasting time online. While we aren’t going to swear off our online surfing, we’ve made a commitment to ride the wave only after our run for the day is complete.

Now we want to know, what are the best ways you’ve found to make time to run?
