With spring marathon season upon us, many runners are ramping up training in preparation to go the distance (including several of our Women’s Running staffers!). Our recent “water cooler” office chats usually lead to coping with the challenges of long distance training runs. Since we love our running girlfriends (YOU), we thought we’d share some tips to increase long run motivation and even recruit ideas from you. After all, isn’t that what girlfriends are for? :)
Here are three of our ideas for enhancing long run motivation:
- Choose a new route every weekend. Switch up your scenery for each long run and you’re mind with thank you. One service we love for finding new routes is MapMyRun. - Position running buddies along the way. Ask friends or family members if they’d be willing to run with you and then strategically place meet up spots at different points in your long run. For example, run the first 5k with your best friend, the next 5k with your brother, and so on…. By supporting you during a tough run, your friends and family will feel more connected to your race day journey.
- Change music playlists often. Don’t let the music you listen to while you run get stale. By constantly adding new songs and mixes, you will ensure fresh energy is pumped through your headphones.
